Good morning, everyone! Ooòoo oooòo I am so happy! I am one excited adventure camp coach! Yesterday (May 20, 2024), our supervisors in training (SIT) did a soft kick off in BOH of our culinary camp! Mozie Sanchez, Lex Guillory, Bri Carter, Yoni Boast, and Z Calvin created a menu and prepared a meal of Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Pork Chops in a Savory Gravy, and Seasoned Sweet Corn for the homeless and less fortunate citizens in Ville Platte. To help the citizens stay cool, their dessert was a fruity popsicle!
Cajun Gems Culinary (CGC) is a division of Save Our Community Kids Adventure Camps (SOCKAC). Pastors Steven and Sarah Sawtelle of Freedom Family Church has given us the opportunity of overseeing their partnership with The Catholic Daughters in a program called "Grace for the Streets." We are extremely grateful for this opportunity. I am happy! Can hardly wait to see them in their uniforms! I am excited to see the menus they will create!
Our first culinary camp will run from June 1st thru July 31st. The SITs and their teams will be responsible for preparing a meal every other Monday. Neil Ortego, Build Health has joined the team of coaches to guide these young adventurers in menu development. In our culinary camp the adventurers will gain knowledge and skills in four areas: food production, food safety, entrepreneurship, and community services.
After seeing these five SITs creating this menu, setting an inventory system, and creating a warm space to dine with flowers on the table for the citizens, I am "over the moon" excited to see the great work they will do when the rest of the adventurers join on June 1st!!
Great job SITs!!!
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting journey!
The Coaching team for CGC!
